Parts-Link is a concept that officially began in Feb, 2002 in hopes to address replacement parts issues and concerns that continue to plague service centers, Electronic repair technicians and other related entities who cannot find sources for obsolete, back ordered or discontinued repair parts to complete their jobs and keep the consumer satisfied - and in return, uphold the manufacturers name.. It addresses these issues by providing a meeting point where active and retired servicers can connect with other entities or manufacturer reps who are either seeking hard to locate parts, need cross-reference or hook-up diagrams, datasheets or who over the years have acquired a large inventory of spare parts (new and used) and are looking for buyers who need these parts to complete repairs. A parts database with photos is offered to support these activities, and also a group message forum that is specific to different brands. There is also an open item report generated regularly, which gets distributed to all members, and lists parts that members need urgently to complete a repair and satisfy their customer. This report is constantly updated as new needs arise, and are met. This report coupled with other features, can help alert manufacturers to shortages before they become critical. Parts-Link's secondary function is to provide news bulletins that possibly can have an effect on the consumer electronics repair industry, such as equipment recalls, parts recalls, manufacturers going out of business , mergers and other related news. Manufacturers, Authorized Parts distributors and other vendors who are interested in participating are strongly encouraged to so. Exposure and participation here helps existing long time service members, and beginners know which manufacturer's of brands show keen interest, and offer the best parts support. In this way, Parts-Link also serves a secondary function to unite such service and parts oriented manufacturers with potential new service centers who are here and qualify to serving them.
